RALLYCROSS Many air-cooled Volkswagens have been used in rallycross over the years, with some success against very strong opposition. As mentioned in the Beetling magazine article, two of the Porsche Salzburg cars were retained by the team for use in Rallycross when Austria banned rallying in 1974. They were converted to Type 4 engines and entered in the European Championship. Here are some photos of various cars in rallycross, including one of the Porsche Austria cars.
The following pictures show the Type 3 Fastback modified by Ingemaar Joelsson in Sweden. It has been updated with a Type 4 engine. You can read more about this car at his website: Joelsson's VW site Jacques Aita's Beetle
