Helmut Doppelreiter
The two photos above show the VW 1302S of Helmut Doppelreiter, who rallied in the early seventies in private VWs (see the report of the '73 Acropolis-Rally). In 1974 he was allowed to drive a 'works' rally car from Porsche Salzburg but, because of the fuel-crisis, this only happened a few times. The car in the photograph is a so called "Muletto", which was used for training. It is not an original Porsche-Salzburg rally car, but is prepared like one with some original parts, e. g. engine, steering wheel etc.
Herr Doppelreiter still owned the car in 1998, although in an un-restorable state, and it was his intention to transfer all the salvageable parts to a new body and floor pan.
