Scott Swenson's 1973 SCCA Super Beetle

Scott has been keeping tabs on this Super for over 11 years now, and has finally bought it.

It was campaigned in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) PRO Rally series as well as some international events between 1973 and 1989, he understands.  It was also entered in the 24 Horas de Mexico a couple of times.

A former navigator told him that the car also completed in the Alcan 5000 in the mid 1980s.

He has bought the car from the family of the owner/driver Al Schmit who passed away towards the end of 2008.

The seats look to be similar to or the same as those found in the Yellow & Black Racer (Gelb-Schwarzen Renner) special edition in Europe

The above sticker could be for the 12th iteration of the Rally America (now Corona Rally Mexico)?

One proposition for the restoration of the car is to take it back to rally-entry condition, add some ham radio gear and run it as a course car on East coast rallies.  Fabulous idea!

Some more pictures from Scott of the car in action.

The restoration of the Bug is going to be covered in Hot VWs magazine in the USA.

A lot more photos of the car, both vintage and today, can be found on his Photobucket gallery
