This Karmann Ghia was used by L Symons to win the 1961 International Total Rally held in South Africa.
It is seen
emerging on to dry land after crossing a river in Swaziland during the event.
Note the screen to protect the car from animals and bushes hitting the front.
The rally was on a par with the East African Safari Rally for toughness.
